Merciful to the Cruel, Cruel to the Merciful

12/06/12Tamimis Lori Lowenthal Marcus In a mind-boggling act of wasted compassion to evil incarnate, the Israeli administration has permitted the released convict husband (who is also her cousin) of a different released convict murderer to alter the terms of his conditions for release.  Instead of remaining in Gaza, he was permitted to pass into Jordan, to be united with his "wife."  Ah, but it would be cruel to keep these spouses apart, isn't it better for Israel to exhibit its humanity (which is always at question, isn't it?) by allowing this?  NO!  The wife in this couple is the monstrous murderer - and yes, we are calling her a monster even as compared to other murderers - Ahlam Tamimi who selected the crowded-with-Jews Sbarro Pizzeria in Jerusalem for a homicide bombing that murdered 15.  When she was released in the prisoner exchange for Gilad Shalit, Tamimi expressed pride and delight upon learning that she was responsible for the death of eight children: she thought she had only killed three.  The husband is merely a standard brutal killer who was convicted of the 1993 cold-blooded murder of Chaim Mizrachi z"l, of Beit El, Israel.

Ahlam Tamimi was responsible for the murder of the 15 year old daughter of our dear friends, Arnold and Frimet Roth.  The Roths are true tzaddikim, they are kind, good, learned, merciful human beings.  But they are the ones the Israeli government is punishing yet again with this additional, irrational, twisted decision.  Read what they have written to the Israeli Prime Minister.

Once again we turn to our sages and find the appropriate words:

"Those who are merciful to the cruel end up being cruel to the merciful."  Kohelet Rabbah
