11/28/11 Daniel Greenfield (a/k/a Sultan Knish) has an excellent article describing the appeal of the underdog, and why it drives so many westerners to support the "wrong side" (which sometimes is any side) in so many battles in the Middle East. He also gives brief explanations of who is really engaged in the battles currently raging, about which so many people are ignorant. I am not sure I entirely agree with every point he makes, but every point he makes is worth considering.
